CA eTrust Security Solutions and Services Support Network Access Protection Technology From Microsoft
Posted on: Tuesday, 13 July 2004, 06:00 CDT
ISLANDIA, N.Y., July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Associates International, Inc. today announced that its eTrust Antivirus and eTrust Vulnerability Manager will support Microsoft's new Network Access Protection (NAP) technology, an extensible standards-based solution for enabling users to securely access corporate networks. CA made the announcement at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, where it is providing software and services to help ensure successful security of the conference infrastructure.
Network Access Protection technology allows IT professionals to monitor and control network access based upon validation of a computer's compliance to pre-established policies. Network access policies are defined and managed by network administrators and managed by a central "policy coordination server."
"Microsoft's new Network Access Protection technology provides an attractive, open solution for automatically evaluating the health of remote clients before they start interacting with the enterprise network," said Toby Weiss, senior vice president of eTrust security management at CA. "CA's solutions and services enable IT organizations to fully leverage that model by telling it exactly what it needs to look for."
One of the major security challenges facing IT organizations is effectively managing the tremendous amount of information relating to new viruses and worms, recent discoveries of vulnerabilities in commercial software, and current recommendations for remediation. By providing a comprehensive and automated way of managing and applying that information, CA optimizes both the effectiveness and the operational efficiency of IT security teams.
* CA's eTrust Antivirus will integrate with Network Access Protection to
ensure that clients connecting to the network are using the correct
version of antivirus software and that virus signature files are up-to-
date. This verification is vital for establishing appropriate trust
levels for corporate networks and for eliminating a significant
potential infection vector.
* CA's eTrust Vulnerability Manager will integrate with Network Access
Protection to ensure that clients connecting to the network meet
required configuration standards and have all appropriate
patches/updates installed. This will ensure that insufficiently secure
systems are effectively isolated.
* In addition, CA customers will be able to leverage the global, round-
the-clock research of CA's Security Advisory Team to ensure that the
security policies implemented though Network Access Protection fully
address new and emerging vulnerabilities as they are discovered. This
up-to-the-minute information is particularly critical for protecting
the enterprise environment from today's rapidly proliferating malware
threats.
This unique combination of virus protection, configuration assessment and threat tracking make CA's eTrust solutions and services ideal for organizations seeking to fully leverage Microsoft's new Network Access Protection technology as a means of enabling secure remote access -- while reducing the IT administration costs associated with providing secure access.
"Microsoft welcomes CA's broad support for Network Access Protection," said Steve Anderson, director in the Windows Server Group at Microsoft Corp. "CA's eTrust technology and Security Advisory Team will help our mutual customers get maximum value from Network Access Protection as they seek to ensure the integrity of their enterprise environments and enable users to easily connect with corporate IT resources on an anytime/anywhere basis."
Microsoft selected CA to provide the same comprehensive security and infrastructure management at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference that the company provided for Microsoft's recent Tech-Ed conference. Built on CA's eTrust and Unicenter management software and supported by CA Technology Services, the state-of-the-art Security Network Operations Center for Tech-Ed 2004 successfully fended off a diverse range of assaults and achieved 99% uptime -- despite the unique challenges presented by the complexity of the event's computing environment, the speed of deployment, diversity of user needs and the intensity of the attacks it attracted.
