ST. THOMAS, Ont. (CP) - The lawyer for a man accused of sexually assaulting a young child live on the Internet says his client can't get a fair trial.
Lawyer Bob Upsdell says police revealed evidence to the media that should have only been heard in court.
A 34-year-old man from St. Thomas, Ont., was arrested last week and faces 11 charges for allegedly providing an undercover police officer with live video of him abusing a young girl - police revealed the shocking details of the case at a press conference last Thursday.
Upsdell says evidence heard during a bail hearing would likely have been subject to a publication ban to ensure a fair trial.
The man made a brief court appearance Tuesday, and will appear again via video on Nov. 21 to set a date for a bail hearing.
Although neither the man nor girl can be identified, media reports have said the victim is the accused's preschool-aged child.
