On Demand Group (ODG), a leader in transactional television, has launched its first wholly owned content service, CineExpress. The pay-per-view movie service has been launched to subscribers of Kabel Deutschland's (KDG) cable network in Germany.
KDG customers now have the opportunity to order movies via their digital cable service. The new service is marketed under KDG's 'Select KINO' pay-per-view offering and includes the latest movies from Hollywood studios and large German independents. The standard price for a film is 3 Euros and there are no activation or subscription fees.
The initial service offering includes movies from Universal, Paramount, DreamWorks, Constantin, Prokino and TMG, with leading titles including "Inside Man", "Munich", "Four Brothers", "Where The Truth Lies", "St. Ralph" and "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'". ODG is expecting more suppliers to sign-up for the service shortly.
Tony Kelly, CEO, ODG commented: "We are very happy to be working with KDG on this new service and we expect CineExpress to quickly set the standard for pay-per-view movie services in Germany. This deal with KDG meets our topline objective of expanding our business into new global markets. It also demonstrates one of our core competencies, the ability to bring compelling content services to market rapidly to give the operator maximum leverage over competition."
Dr Manuel Cubero, MD Cable TV and Content at KDG commented: "Our new pay-per-view offer provides our customers with real added value. Free access to the latest blockbusters without subscription is another incentive for all fans of great cinema."
About KDG:
KDG operates cable networks in 13 German federal states and supplies cable connections to approximately 10 million households. This makes KDG the largest cable operator in Germany. The company develops and markets new triple play offers for digital TV, broadband internet and telephony via cable. At the end of 2005, KDG had a turnover of more than a billion Euros and approximately 2,500 employees.
