WALLINGFORD, Conn., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Mangrove Systems, developer of the industry's first metro and access solution to enable end-to-end MPLS, today announced a technology integration and resale partnership with Ahead Communications Systems, Inc., a leading provider of multi-service switching solutions. Mangrove's MetroMPLS(TM) technology, embedded within Ahead's Xedge6000(TM) family of multi-service switches, offers Ahead's large installed base of service provider and major enterprise customers a comprehensive roadmap to scalable Ethernet and broadband service delivery over higher-capacity network and service interfaces.
Mangrove's MetroMPLS technology enables Xedge customers to offer new data services, including point-to-point and multipoint Gigabit Ethernet, alongside existing legacy services in the Xedge platform, thereby enhancing their current infrastructure without a costly forklift upgrade. Ahead's diverse customer base of national public network providers, federal and state agencies and large North American enterprises will benefit from the ability to expand their networks using MetroMPLS technology provided within their deployed networking platforms, removing the cost and uncertainty that accompanies whole network change-out.
"The integration of Mangrove's MetroMPLS technology within Ahead's deployed platforms creates a high performance ATM, Ethernet and MPLS solution enabling Ahead's customers to rapidly broaden service delivery and enhance their existing networks with new services over higher-capacity circuits," said Jonathan Reeves, Mangrove president and CEO. "The partnership with Ahead will strengthen our presence in the enterprise sector and create new opportunities for worldwide deployment of Mangrove solutions and products."
"Our partnership with Mangrove Systems establishes an invaluable strategic bridge between Ahead Communications and its elite customer base," commented Anton Kaeslin, president and CEO of Ahead Communications Systems. "Mangrove's exceptional technology accelerates delivery of and broadens the feature benefits of our next generation 'hybrid' switching platform," Kaeslin added.
As part of the agreement between the two companies, Ahead will market and sell Mangrove's Piranha(TM) MetroMPLS access multiplexers and concentrators using both its own sales force and other established channels.
Piranha platforms, positioned at the edge of a carrier's network, are ideal for single-tenant, low-density multi-tenant, or central office interworking applications. Piranha supports a wide range of interface types, including DS1/E1, DS3/E3, OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16, 10/100 Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and SAN. Subscriber services include Ethernet (point to point and multipoint), Frame Relay, ATM, IP/PPP, TDM and SAN.
Xedge platforms provide fast packet access from 75 bps to OC-3/STM1 today and will support Gigabit Ethernet and OC-48/STM-16 by the first quarter 2005. The Xedge platform includes an industry leading traffic management implementation to assure cost effective use of bandwidth. Ahead Communications has earned a reputation of offering network layer transport systems that meet the highest quality, reliability and technical standards. Over 3000 Xedge switches currently operate in some of the world's most demanding packet networks.
