AT&T Ethernet Services Receives Customer Value Enhancement Award From Frost & Sullivan

BEDMINSTER, N.J., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. today announced that AT&T Ethernet Solutions have received the 2006 Ethernet Services Customer Value Enhancement Award from the research and global growth consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan. In naming AT&T as this year's award recipient Frost & Sullivan recognized AT&T's ability to achieve a successful strategic merger with SBC, which helped grow its installed base of metropolitan Ethernet services through new deployments and expand its capacity into additional markets.
The award is presented each year to the company that best demonstrates the ability to expand the metropolitan Ethernet customer base with more innovative value creation and enhancement strategies. Frost & Sullivan also cited AT&T for promoting Ethernet as a true end-to-end, carrier-grade service.
"The combination of AT&T and SBC has enabled AT&T to provide the most comprehensive suite of Ethernet services, along with the broadest Ethernet footprint in the industry," said Sanford Brown, vice president of AT&T. "We are extremely proud of the recognition given to our Metro Ethernet services, as we continue to expand and improve the reach of our Ethernet capabilities," he added.
AT&T's Ethernet Solutions provide customers with a highly efficient, cost-effective solution for communicating across multiple locations within a metropolitan area. The services are ideal for organizations that want to link buildings in a metropolitan area through broadband connections in order to share information across employees, customers and suppliers, and other users. These solutions also provide expanded service levels that will give businesses a wider selection in the type of service level they want, supporting bandwidths ranging from 5 Mbps up to 10 Gbps.
AT&T Ethernet Solutions can be configured in a variety of ways, including point to point, point to multipoint and multipoint to multipoint. Today, businesses use metropolitan Ethernet services for a variety of connectivity options, including dedicated access to the Internet, global access to a multi-protocol label switching platform, private line access to a managed area network or wide area network, network access via SONET or DWDM rings or switched access to a virtual private network.
In August, AT&T added 22 metropolitan locations to its OPT-E-MAN(R) switched Ethernet service area, increasing to 41 the number of cities where the technology is available. The expansion reflects the growth of the overall North American Ethernet services market, which Frost & Sullivan said earned revenues of $866.2 million in 2005 and estimates revenue to reach $3.4 billion by 2012.
"Increasing numbers of bandwidth-intensive applications are placing unprecedented demands on networks, and Ethernet is considered the most cost-effective and manageable solution to such data traffic," said Frost & Sullivan analyst Maria Zeppetella. "This award recognizes that AT&T is well-positioned to expand its market leadership in the arena of Ethernet services."
