MTV to Offer More Male-Oriented Programs

Posted on: Sunday, 19 November 2006, 18:00 CST

MTV plans to reorient its programming to offer more TV series for men in an effort to gain control of the male demographic in the United States.

While the U.S.-based cable network once dominated the male demographic with series like Jackass, its programming has recently focused on women and network executives say its time to change that trend, Daily Variety said.

To capitalize on the profitable yet elusive male demographic, MTV exec Brian Graden said the network is set to offer several new series geared mainly towards the male gender.

Most go after this audience with some crazy-ass comedy, said Graden. Our portfolio approach offers a lot more flavors than that.

Graden added that while some shows will be oriented toward viewers of both sexes, series such as TwentyFourSeven reportedly focus their sights entirely upon male viewers.

Daily Variety said that MTV's effort will begin when the series, that offers a reality show version of HBO's Entourage, premieres on Dec. 9.
