Lumeta Introduces the Lumeta Network Index
Posted on: Monday, 20 November 2006, 09:00 CST
SOMERSET, N.J., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lumeta, the leading provider of network assurance solutions for enterprises and government agencies, today announced the availability of the Lumeta Network Index(TM) (LNI), an extension to the company's flagship IPsonar network assurance product. LNI complements the network visualization capabilities in IPsonar, distilling large volumes of network risk data into an intuitive executive scorecard. LNI helps IT managers and CIOs quantify and measure network risk, and take corrective action before a serious breach, outage, or non-compliant situation occurs.
In "Are We Secure Yet? Defining Business-Centric Metrics for Information Security," a report issued by Forrester Research, Inc. on March 31, 2006, Senior Analyst Khalid Kark addresses the need for measuring network risk factors. "Based on the operational metrics you gather, it may be useful to develop an easy-to-understand score to track your organization's internal risk... This gives management an at-a-glance picture of whether there are any high-risk issues they should be worried about right now," writes Kark.
LNI estimates both security and operational related network risk based on a range of risk factors identified by IPsonar and provides a scorecard that details a network's risk profile. The scores can be used to prioritize remediation efforts based on the most significant contributing factors to network risk for IT infrastructure. Using LNI scores as part of a comprehensive risk management process can help avoid unbudgeted operation expenses, remediation costs and business losses. Organizations can compare LNI scores between various IPsonar scans over time to determine whether network risk is increasing or decreasing relative to the state of the network and to determine the most significant contributing factors to network risk as the IT infrastructure changes.
Based on four network risk categories and 34 key variables, LNI includes a number of critical network risk factors (Network Topology, Network Address Space, Network Leaks, Device Fingerprints) that together help provide a meaningful measure of composite network risk. By utilizing LNI to gain insight into an organization's most significant IT risk factors, organizations can:
* Quantify and benchmark network risk to measure the impact of change over time. * Measure the effectiveness of security policy and controls to demonstrate regulatory compliance. * Measure the impact of network change on risk and compliance. * Prioritize remediation efforts. * Measure the performance of network and security operations.
"Providing organizations with a solution to quantify and measure network risk enables them to develop a comprehensive risk management strategy that will help avoid compliance fines and business losses," said David Arbeitel, chief technology officer of Lumeta. "Lumeta has helped organizations manage network security risk for years with our flagship IPsonar solution. The launch of LNI cements Lumeta's position as the only vendor to manage risk from a global network perspective."
About Lumeta Corporation
Lumeta provides large enterprises and government agencies with the global visibility needed to quantify network risk and measure the impact of network change. Lumeta's network assurance solutions enable IT organizations to deploy new business services, maintain existing service levels, and minimize network security risk to ensure compliant operations.
Lumeta's flagship product, IPsonar, is the industry's only solution that allows organizations to measure risk from a global network perspective. IPsonar maps every asset on a network -- including assets not currently under management-visualizes the connectivity between assets and networks to uncover risk patterns and policy weaknesses, and enables network and security teams to bring unknown assets under management while deploying security technology more effectively to mitigate risk.
