I-SAFE Brings Students Together World-Wide to Raise Internet Safety Awareness for Safer Internet Day 2007

i-SAFE Inc., the world leader in Internet safety education, and Insafe, the network of national nodes coordinating Internet safety awareness in the European Union (EU), come together to bring the Internet community closer in a global student competition "Crossing Borders" for Safer Internet Day (SID) on February 6, 2007. Schools from around the world are invited to enter the competition, work in pairs with a foreign school, and win valuable prizes for their schools.
"We are proud to join Insafe during SID 2007," said Teri Schroeder, i-SAFE president and CEO. "Through our global experiment students are empowered to build on their Internet safety knowledge and share their learning with their peers. Our goal is to spread Internet safety awareness and continue to provide education and empowerment to students world-wide."
i-SAFE will pair EU member schools to United States schools for a creative Internet safety project filming a "making of" video. Students will choose a project theme (e-privacy, netiquette, or power of images) and work together to prepare the entry for the competition. Students will be captured on video as they create their project and speak out about their online experiences.
The paired schools will collaborate using Web technology tools to communicate and share the project. The footage will be available to a global audience via streaming video from the i-SAFE Web site. The link to the video and the final creative project will be released on SID 2007 during the Insafe Blogathon. Winners for the competition will be announced at the completion of the blogathon.
i-SAFE is the first associate node of the Insafe network outside the European Union and now provides world-class Internet safety education to EU schools. The i-SAFE International Education Program is available at http://international.isafe.org to EU member nodes through online professional-development training modules. Through its i-LEARN International video modules, i-SAFE provides educators the knowledge to teach the core topics important to promoting safe and responsible Internet use -- Child Safety, Online Behavior, Protecting Personal Information, and Computer Security -- preparing them for lessons ranging from online predator awareness to plagiarism, identity theft, bullying, and more.
