American Academy of Opthalmology's Clear Vision for Network Access Control Leads Them to StillSecure Safe Access

StillSecure(R), provider of an award-winning, integrated suite of enterprise network security solutions, today announced that American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is using StillSecure Safe Access(TM) for network access control (NAC). AAO selected Safe Access for its flexibility, ease-of-use, and ability to integrate into their heterogeneous network environment.
Each year AAO conducts a security assessment and penetration test to determine vulnerabilities and other threats to the network. This year's results confirmed that the biggest risk to their network is the external threat. Given the large number of teleworkers logging onto the network using company-owned or personal computers, AAO's perimeter defense system wasn't nearly as strong as it should be.
To combat this threat, AAO began researching appliance-based NAC products that were easy to set-up, easy to administer, and transparent to the end user. They chose Safe Access because its agentless testing option and DHCP enforcement method were ideal for the company's VPN teleworker scenario. In addition, Safe Access integrated seamlessly into AAO's network infrastructure, with no forklift upgrades required.
AAO has currently installed Safe Access in their VPN environment and plans to roll it out to the rest of the company in early 2007. Prior to this, AAO will pre-roll their security policy to determine the percentage of employees that will be in compliance. This process ensures administrative headaches and help desk calls are kept to a minimum when an enterprise-wide roll-out occurs.
"Safe Access is a great fit for AAO because there's no intrusion on the end user side with clients or security policy maintenance. Plus, it can be set up like an appliance and easily integrated into the network," said Joe Carr, VP of IT at the American Academy of Ophthalmology. "Things are going really well so far. When we researched our options, it was hard to find a competitive product for the price. We found a few that did some of what Safe Access does but nothing was as comprehensive and well-recommended."
"It's great to see companies like AAO recognize Safe Access for its flexibility and ease-of-use since that's really what we focused on when we built the product almost four years ago," said Mitchell Ashley, CTO and VP of Customer Experience at StillSecure. "AAO is an ideal customer because they understand the value in a controlled roll-out. To minimize the impact on the network and its users, we recommend customers choose one area of the network to start with, and then pre-roll their security policies before installing it enterprise-wide."
