Alcatel to Provide Tunisia With National Digital Microwave Network

Alcatel announced Monday that it has been awarded a contract of Euro 12 million to provide the Tunisian broadcasting office's (ONT) with a national digital microwave network. This network will allow the future development of terrestrial digital television channels in this north African country.
The project covers the supply of a digital microwave radio network, composed of forty digital stations with large capacity spread out across the entire Tunisian territory. This network will ensure the broadcasting of digital television and radio programs between the production studios and the broadcasting centers. Its advanced management system will allow ONT to remotely and flexibly control the network's broadcasting centers.
Alcatel is responsible for the turnkey supply of the entire network, including systems integration, installation, commissioning, acceptance testing and project management.
"We believe that Alcatel's SDH technology will provide the best solution responding to our needs, both in terms of capacity and reliability", said Raouf Chkir, Chairman and managing director of ONT. "Alcatel's attention to detail and its commitment to provide ONT with a reliable system sealed our decision".

"In this project, Alcatel intends to meet the new challenges of digital broadcasting, bringing together video and telecommunications."
