Jul. 27--TOKYO -- Dell Inc. President Kevin Rollins said Tuesday the U.S. computer maker aims to boost its share in Japan's personal computer market to around 20 percent from the current 12.2 percent.
"Our global market share is between 18 and 19 percent. I would expect that over time our Japanese business would achieve at least the same market share goal between 18 and 19 percent," Rollins told reporters. He took over as chief executive officer earlier this month.
In less than 20 years since its establishment in 1984, Dell acquired the largest share in the global PC market through its direct marketing strategy.
The company currently has the third-largest market share in Japan and is narrowing the gap with Fujitsu Ltd., which is in second place.
According to a U.S. research firm, Dell held a 12.2 percent share in the Japanese PC market in the April-June quarter, up from 10.5 percent in the January-March quarter.
