National Computer Security Day November 30; Sponsor AuthenTec Available to Discuss Trends, Issues and Solutions
Posted on: Wednesday, 29 November 2006, 12:00 CST
In observance of National Computer Security Day (NCSD) November 30th, experts from NCSD sponsor AuthenTec will be available to comment on the latest security issues, trends, surveys, and available solutions.
Recent statistics show that both computer theft and security concerns by U.S. residents continue to rise -- despite the myriad solutions available. Some statistics include;
Laptop computer thefts have risen 25%, with an estimated 750,000 laptops stolen last year (2005), up from 600,000 in 2003.
91 million records containing personal information have been involved in security breaches including lost backup tapes, stolen laptops and attacks by computer hackers since 2005, according to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
A majority of U.S. residents have not implemented safeguards to protect their identities because of confusion about the cost, time involved, and available solutions, a recent survey found.
Stolen passwords and lost laptops are among the top concerns among PC users, according to another survey. Although many PC users feel that today's computers are more secure than they were five years ago, most think there are still significant risks to their devices and the important information they contain.
