NBC 5 Continues As North Texas’ News Leader

The station’s early morning and late evening newscasts consistently dominate the competition with both telecasts finishing #1 in the November sweeps, which ended yesterday.

NBC 5 Today from 5-7 a.m. and NBC 5 News at 10 p.m. lead the competition in both household and person 25-54 audience estimates as reported by Nielsen Media Research. The margin of victory for NBC 5 Today from 5-7 a.m. is 25%.

Viewers’ choice of NBC 5 News at 10 p.m. is becoming legendary. The program is about to conclude its 5th year as Dallas – Fort Worth’s #1 local newscast, Monday – Friday. Nearly 300,000 people wrap up their day with NBC 5 News at 10 p.m. During 2006, the newscast finished #1 among persons 25-54 every month through November.

   Additional highlights from the November ratings period:    * NBC 5 First at Four is the #1 newscast in its time period in both     households and persons 25-54, a position it has maintained for ten of     eleven months this year.    * NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams concludes it third consecutive     month as the number one choice network news choice among persons 25-54.     The newscast airs at 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, on NBC 5.    * NBC 5 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. continue to deliver the information     North Texans seek each weekday evening. In November, an average 226,000     homes and 284,000 persons 2+ viewed the combined newscasts.    * Viewers want constant access to local news and information and NBC 5 is     responding on the internet with nbc5i.com. North Texans clicked to     nbc5i.com at record levels in November with page views exceeding 15.4     million. On election night, November 7, nbc5i.com was home to continuous     online political coverage featuring live reports and interviews     delivered directly to desktops.    * NBC 5′s Weather Plus 24/7 digital weather channel became available to     more North Texans in November. The channel offers continuous local     weather information provided by NBC 5 meteorologists along with national     weather forecasts. Nielsen Media Research began using Local People Meters (TM) in North Texas this year. Local People Meters (TM) report daily age-specific demographic ratings — information that was previously only available several weeks after the conclusion of “sweep” periods. Advertisers are particularly interested in age demographic information, such as persons 25-54.

The November sweeps period began November 2 and ended November 29, 2006. Nielsen Media Research produces the ratings data presented. One household rating point represents approximately 23,787 area homes.
