With headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida, the U.S. company will play a key role in the global business of Siemens Communications, which will be Siemens' largest global unit, with sales of $18.5 billion and 60,000 employees. Mattes will serve on the board of the new global organization, with additional worldwide responsibilities for all enterprise businesses. When the merger of all Siemens wire line and mobile businesses is completed on October 1, 2004, Siemens Communications will serve the largest installed base of wireless and wire line carrier and enterprise customers in the world and emerge as the only company in the United States capable of providing end-to-end solutions for all major customers in the industry -- wireless and wire line carriers, enterprises, cable operators and service providers.

"We have created Siemens Communications to address the revolution in communications brought about by the explosion of mobile communications devices and solutions and the exciting possibilities of IP converged solutions," said Mattes. "The U.S. market is particularly compelling for Siemens Communications because our technology is giving customers -- from teenage cell phone users to CIOs of large corporations -- some of the most innovative communications tools and solutions in the world."

"Mattes stands out as one of the best and the brightest among Siemens' new generation of leaders," said George Nolen, president and CEO of Siemens Corporation, the parent company of Siemens' U.S. businesses. "As a key architect of our global strategy in the Enterprise Networks space, Mattes has helped us stand apart from our competitors both in terms of technological innovation and business results."
