Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR) today announced that Cox Newspapers, along with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and 17 other Cox owned daily newspapers, has deployed the Juniper Networks Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) for remote access to its corporate intranet. Utilizing the Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN appliances with the newly enhanced Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) version 5.4, Cox Newspapers is able to provide its distributed workforce with secure anytime, anywhere access to applications from Windows, Intel-based Mac and Linux platforms as well as mobile devices including the new Windows Mobile 5.0 PDAs and phones.
"We needed a remote solution that could easily support our users accessing the intranet from an extensive variety of end-user platforms," said Phillip Groen, senior networking analyst at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Juniper Networks' newly enhanced version of IVE enables our multiple departments across the United States and overseas to access e-mail and other important applications on our intranet from virtually any end-user device including network-layer tunnel support on our new Intel-based Macs."
The Juniper Networks SSL VPN appliances running IVE version 5.4 enable users to securely access applications from a greater range of devices and platforms, including Windows Mobile 5.0 and Intel-based Mac. IVE 5.4 provides granular Web-based and client/server application access for applications, like Pocket Outlook with Active Sync and Windows Mobile 5.0. In addition, the SSL VPN's thin client support for Windows Mobile 5.0 enables seamless roaming without requiring users to re-authenticate as they travel through different wireless access points and networks, such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE) and Wi-Fi.
"Juniper Networks is once again extending its market leadership by enabling cross platform support and adding new usability and management features to its award-winning line of SSL VPN appliances," said Vivian Ganitsky, director of Product Management at Juniper Networks. "The Secure Access appliances with IVE 5.4 enable enterprises and service providers to provide their remote employees, partners, and customers worldwide with ubiquitous access capabilities."
