Mentor Graphics Introduces Advanced User Interface Capabilities for High-Volume Mobile Phones and Consumer Electronic Devices
Posted on: Wednesday, 6 December 2006, 09:00 CST
Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT) today announced the availability of technology that enables the rapid creation, customization and deployment of advanced user interfaces (UI) for consumer electronic devices. The new technology is integrated with the Mentor Graphics Nucleus® operating system (OS), the most widely used commercial embedded OS for mobile phones and consumer devices.
Manufacturers can use the UI technology to exploit the full multimedia power of today's embedded hardware platforms, enabling rich visual effects such as 3D graphics and advanced animation throughout a device's user interface. Sophisticated menu systems and application interfaces can be rapidly and radically customized using XML, and any part of a UI may be changed dynamically, such as via wireless update.
As the market for connected, multimedia consumer devices accelerates and evolves, manufacturers and service providers are recognizing that compelling user interfaces are critical to achieving high sales and driving adoption of new wireless data and content services. By deploying the new Mentor Graphics' UI technology with the Nucleus OS, industry participants can deliver more effective and appealing interactive experiences across a wide range of mass market devices, with significantly less time and effort.
"As one of the most widely used OSes for embedded devices such as mass market mobile phones, Mentor's Nucleus OS holds a unique position in the consumer electronics space," said Neil Henderson, general manager for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. "Adding this new technology will strengthen our growing position in application processors and significantly help our licensees to deliver better products and services more quickly."
