SILVER SPRING, Md., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ — TV One is approaching the year end with strong growth in distribution, ratings, and online traffic. TV One grew its subscriber base by 39% in 2006, the largest percentage growth of any cable network, according to Nielsen Media Research universe estimates. The not-quite-three-year-old network targeting African American adults added more than 9.5 million households from December 2005 to December 2006, growing from 24.3 million to more than 33.8 million households. By year end, TV One will be carried in 45 of the top 50 Nielsen-ranked African American markets.

The network’s Thanksgiving weekend world television premiere of “Preaching to the Choir,” which aired four times over the four days, performed strongly for the network in each telecast, topped by a 0.8 rating Saturday night, which was the network’s highest-rated program since it began receiving daily ratings data in fourth quarter 2006.

TVOneonline.com also had a record November, attracting more than 386,000 unique visitors and more than 2 million page views, a 400% increase over November 2005. Among the features offered on tvoneonline.com in November was coverage of R&B star Gerald Levert’s funeral and a microsite for TV One’s hit comedy series, “Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes?,” featuring podcasts of upcoming episodes and behind-the-scenes interviews with contestants.

“TV One appreciates the consistently strong support we have received — and continue to receive — from distributors and advertisers since we launched nearly three years ago,” said TV One President and CEO Johnathan Rodgers. “We are particularly excited to see, via hard data, what we have known anecdotally — that African American adults are responding positively to TV One and are viewing us as a home base for their entertainment needs.”
