Frontier troops have access to fiber optic telecom services

HOHHOT, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Officers and soldiers guarding the border in the central and western parts of Inner Mongolia, north China, now enjoy access to fiber optical telecommunications services such as long-distance phone calls and the Intranet operated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Early this year, a local telecommunications operator and the army made a joint investment to launch the project. The officers and soldiers helped in the laying of more than 700 kilometers of fiber optic cable to connect the border barracks with broadband services.

Broadband will also enable these officers and soldiers to receive remote medical treatment.
