Sanyo Cell Phone Batteries Recalled
December 8, 2006
Japan’s Sanyo Electric Co., the biggest maker of rechargeable batteries, is recalling 1.3 million of its cell phone batteries.
The recall, prompted by fears the batteries may overheat and rupture, was initiated by mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo and applies to Sanyo-made lithium ion batteries used in Mitsubishi Electric D902i phones, the BBC said Friday.
Sanyo competitor Sony is recalling 9.6 million laptop computer batteries for similar reasons.
