Openwave Helps Mobile Developers Ignite Mobility With Sprint at Fourth Annual Application Developer Conference

Posted on: Monday, 11 December 2006, 09:00 CST

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Openwave Systems Inc. , the leading provider of independent software products and services for the communications industry, today announced its Platinum sponsorship participation at the Sprint Developer Conference, opening today at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, FL. Running from December 11- 13, 2006, the annual conference brings together nearly 1,200 developers, partners, businesses and software vendors, and introduces Sprint developers to upcoming products while providing comprehensive training on next-generation application development capabilities.

At the conference, John Trobough, vice president of product management, will discuss the critical role of mobile location in driving personalized mobile content and communications applications in a presentation entitled, "Integrating Messaging, Location and Content to Drive Innovation in Mobile Services and Applications."

"Sprint's developer community is essential to bringing personalized, contextually relevant mobile application experiences to the mass market, while also helping business customers solve business mobility problems," said Trobough. "At Openwave we work closely with operators, handset manufacturers and the larger ecosystem of content providers, developers, and businesses to deliver context awareness into mobile information, communications, and entertainment experiences."

Openwave Developer Network members will also co-present with Sprint developer program experts on a new Mobile Location programmable interface called the Advanced Application Interface (AAI) -- Openwave's SOAP/XML version of the feature-rich Open Mobile Alliance-Mobile Location Protocol. As of November 2006, more than 80 million Sprint location transactions have been served to the Sprint developer community using Openwave Location Studio -- making it the most widely-used location service delivery engine in the world. Now, with the introduction of the new Advanced Application Interface, developers from both the Java and .NET camps will be able to integrate Mobile Location into any imaginable application through Web services.
