NETGEAR Offers Special 'Back to School' Rebates for Students and School Administrators Alike

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc. , a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, announced today its "Back to School" promotion aimed at both students and school administrators. Customers purchasing a wide variety of NETGEAR products at such national retailers as Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA and Staples can save on their purchases with a mail-in rebate. Rebates will vary by product and retail chain, but range from $5 to $35 per product, with possible additional in-store discounts. NETGEAR's rebate program runs through September 30, 2004.
As an ongoing promotion, NETGEAR is also offering to education facilities and government agencies a five percent discount off all NETGEAR products, including switches, routers, access points, and omni-directional antennas when purchased through members of NETGEAR's authorized Powershift Partner Program. NETGEAR's value-added resellers are also offering rebates to bookstores for specific home and business products.
"This promotion is our way to kick off what is traditionally our strongest sales season, which begins with back-to-school purchases and goes into full throttle in late fall with early holiday shopping sprees," said Patrick Lo, NETGEAR's chairman and chief executive officer.
College students on the go appreciate the flexibility offered by NETGEAR's wireless networking solutions. As more and more campuses set up in-building wireless networks and external wireless zones, students using laptops equipped with a NETGEAR wireless adapter can tap into their email and share lecture notes without wires, whether in a dorm room, the commons room, the cafeteria, the library, or under a tree in the quad. For students living off-campus in group houses, a network based on a NETGEAR wireless router or access point is a fast and easy way to connect short-term residents to a shared broadband connection and network peripherals such as printers.
"College students live in shared housing and share books, bills, and even cars. Sharing a printer and a broadband connection are simply more examples of communal property," added Mr. Lo. "And there's no question that the easiest way to set up a network and connect frequently changing users in different locations is by going Wi-Fi. Moreover, kids today expect their gadgets to adapt to their mobile lifestyles, not the other way around. Whether it's a PDA or a laptop, they want to be able to use that device in whatever location that makes sense that day -- which isn't on a desk, tied to a router and printer. That's where NETGEAR comes in."
Among the extensive list of qualifying products for the rebate offer are a variety of NETGEAR's wireless devices based on 802.11b and 802.11g wireless technology standards. Some of the most popular networking products with "student appeal" and covered by the Back to School promotion are:
-- NETGEAR's new pocket-sized WGR101 54 Mbps Wireless Travel Router; students who host an ad hoc study group in a room with an existing wired Ethernet connection will appreciate the ability to set up an instant wireless multi-user network with the added security of a "double" firewall.
-- The MP101 Wireless Digital Music Player, an affordable and easy to use wireless network adapter, enabling students to enjoy their collection of digital music files on their stereos, in addition to RealNetworks' Rhapsody(TM) Internet jukebox service and Internet radio via vtuner.com.
-- The WGT634U Super G Wireless Media Router, which supports storage access off the router via a USB interface, enabling users to store and share files and entertainment content such as MP3 files, digital photos and digital video for instant, seamless access from PC and Web applications on computers connected on the home network, as well as from the Internet when away from home at university.
-- NETGEAR's WGT624 Super G 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router and accompanying WG511T Super G 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card and WG311T Super G 108 Mbps Desktop PC PCI Adapter, all based on 54Mbps 802.11g wireless technology but operating at "turbo" speeds that increase signal range and throughput.
