Secure 'Government Grade' Network From Sprint

Posted on: Thursday, 5 August 2004, 06:00 CDT

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its strategic effort to increase the security of its communications and information infrastructure, U.S.-based ABN AMRO Services Company, Inc. (AASC), which provides support for LaSalle Bank Corporation whose parent is one of the world's largest international banks, ABN AMRO Bank N.V., has selected Sprint to implement a highly secure communications network across Sprint's private IP backbone that does not connect to the public global Internet.

The government-grade "peerless IP" (Internet protocol) network is a solution originally aimed squarely at meeting the increasing security and performance demands of many federal and state government agencies. Earlier this year, Sprint announced that the FBI, National Guard and other key agencies have selected the peerless IP network. Details are available at http://www3.sprint.com/PR/CDA/PR_CDA_Press_Releases . AASC will use the network to connect hundreds of retail banking locations in the U.S., namely LaSalle Bank Corporation subsidiaries LaSalle Bank in the Chicago market and Standard Federal Bank, which is concentrated in Michigan.

"Clearly, security is of primary importance to our customers and to our mission," said AASC Executive Vice President Louis Rosenthal. "The Sprint peerless IP network delivers the combination of performance and security that we demand in order to provide the highest degrees of security, service and confidence to our customers."

"Sprint is gaining great traction for the peerless IP solution among our largest customers -- especially in the financial and government sectors," said Howard Janzen, president - Sprint Business Solutions. "Financial institutions place perhaps a greater premium on security than any other segment of the market. ABN AMRO is investing in a technology that can enable it to deliver against the most exacting security and performance requirements -- something which will resonate well with its customers, employees and investors. Peerless IP is an example of Sprint's commitment to applying innovative thinking and world-class technology to address the challenges that our customers face every day."

The first to deploy a nationwide, all-digital fiber-optic network, Sprint operates one of the world's few Tier-1 IP networks, SprintLink(SM). The peerless IP product builds upon the strict standards and performance levels of this backbone. Sprint was the first to offer such a solution to meet government agency demands for a closed, native IP intranet. The new government-grade IP intranet solution uses this same architecture and provides the same industry-leading performance without connectivity to the public Internet. The Sprint peerless IP network also provides support for a wide range of Sprint's IP VPN solutions, including Sprint MPLS VPN.
