Nebraska's Official Web Site (Www.Nebraska.Gov) Earns National Recognition

The state of Nebraska's official Web site (www.Nebraska.gov) recently earned an A-minus in a recent study conducted by the National Policy Research Council, a Washington-based think tank, in collaboration with Computerworld magazine that graded the Web sites of state and local governments. Only five states received a grade of A-minus or better.
"Helping citizens access their government easily through the use of Internet technology is a high priority for this administration," said Governor Dave Heineman. "We are thrilled to receive national recognition for the hard work our state put in to eGovernment."
The eGovernment report card was based on an extensive examination of 11,227 official government Web sites. Reviewers judged the Web sites on 25 criteria in seven categories, including usability, citizen responsiveness, accessibility for disabled visitors, information tools, online procurement, job opportunities, and the availability and functionality of interactive permits and payments.
"The highest marks were generally given to Web sites on which a wide range of services could easily be found on the home page instead of being buried several pages deep," said Robert McArthur, eGovernment project director for the National Policy Research Council.
Since its launch in 1995, the Nebraska.gov web portal has served as the gateway for news and information about Nebraska state government. In those eleven years, the portal has seen five major redesigns, launched a wide variety of new features and added more than 150,000 pages of content.
Nebraska's state Web site boasts content including citizen alerts, a dynamic news page, and live online customer service. In addition, the portal continues to provide simplified access to Nebraska's nearly 300 electronic government services, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The state of Nebraska's official Web site is managed and operated through a public private relationship between the state of Nebraska, the Nebraska State Records Board, and Nebraska Interactive, a wholly owned subsidiary eGovernment firm NIC (NASDAQ:EGOV).
