Cypress Appoints Managing Director of Japan Sales Office

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced the appointment of Michael Bollesen as managing director of its Japan sales office. Bollesen is charged with increasing semiconductor sales in the expanding Japanese market, with a particular focus on the consumer, communications, automotive and wireless segments.

Japan is the second-largest semiconductor market in the world after the Asia-Pacific and provides a solid customer base. Cypress's USB 2.0 and programmable timing generators have been embraced in Japan by manufacturers of video game consoles, PCs and peripherals, while its MicroPower(TM) SRAMs are currently being designed into cell phones and personal handheld devices.

"Michael Bollesen is the ideal candidate for this very important position," said Tim Turk, Cypress's vice president of worldwide sales. "He also has extensive technical knowledge in both Cypress products and systems-based solutions. This strong technical background, coupled with his Japan tactical marketing experience early in his career at Cypress, gives him a strong understanding of Japanese customer needs. He also has spent 13 years working in business development, product marketing, strategic marketing and application engineering. All of these attributes are required to expand our presence in Japan."

Bollesen joined Cypress after receiving his B.A. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota; he later earned an MBA from Santa Clara University. At Cypress, he has held many different positions in marketing and applications, including marketing manager for Japan, business development manager for the Memory Products Division, director of strategic marketing and applications for the Datacom Division. Bollesen is uniquely qualified to develop and implement a plan to position Cypress as a key semiconductor supplier to all major customers in Japan.
