Precision Computer Systems Select Expand Accelerators to Speed-Up On-Demand Delivery of Banking Applications

Posted on: Monday, 9 August 2004, 06:00 CDT

PCS, a Fiserv Company, Standardizes on Expand Technology to Increase Service Levels While Boosting Profit Margins for Hosted Applications

Expand Networks, a leading provider of Application Traffic Management Solutions, today announced, Precision Computer Systems (PCS), a Fiserv Company(NasdaqNM:FISV) and a leading supplier of hosted core banking solutions has standardized on Expand Accelerators to enable on-demand delivery of high bandwidth banking applications such as check imaging to branch offices.

PCS provides both in-house and managed resource solutions to community banks ranging from de novos to multi-billion institutions. Serving more than 750 community banks nationwide, PCS has recently rolled out new high-bandwidth applications such as Check Imaging and On-demand Teller Systems as hosted solutions.

PCS was already running Citrix to optimize remote access but network congestion and poor application response times threatened the stringent Service Levels that PCS has in place. PCS tested application traffic management solutions as part of its initiative to cost-effectively manage application availability and performance across its highly distributed network. The PCS team also wanted to assess the feasibility of curtailing connectivity costs while increasing the reliability and performance of the new banking applications.

"We quickly learned that the new applications required more bandwidth to run effectively which in turn significantly increased recurring monthly bandwidth costs. For example, if a branch of a bank has to increase their connection from 64k to 128k, they would incur an additional $20,800 in bandwidth costs over a typical 60-month contract. Multiply that over a number of bank branches and the costs could be staggering to implement new solutions," said Bill Bauman, Sales Support Specialist at PCS.

Using Expand Accelerators, PCS customers such as Security Bank, Sioux Falls, South Dakota have seen up to 150-200% increase in WAN capacity and application response times with an ROI in less than six months. "We have been extremely happy with the response times at our branches and the reliability of the Expand Accelerators," Paula Brookshire, AVP and Cashier at Security Bank.

"Increasingly, finance, banking and insurance organizations are deploying high bandwidth applications out to branch offices to improve their competitiveness and customer service," said Pedro Colaco, vice president at Expand. "Deploying and maintaining applications, providing network security, keeping offices technically up-to-date, and managing large amounts of extranet or VPN data traffic, all from a remote location, can keep even the most well-funded IT department scrambling. Resource-starved branch offices need application acceleration technologies that are not only cost-efficient but which are also automated and simple to deploy. Expand's Accelerators continue to be the solution of choice for these industries because of our long-term commitment to the branch office."
