SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Micrel Inc., , an industry leader in Power, Connect, and Protect IC solutions today announced two new high-speed, high-current low-dropout (LDO) regulator controllers. The MIC5190 and MIC5191 are aimed at a wide variety of point-of-load and digital IC power applications. The MIC5190/91 are currently sampling, with volume quantities available within 10-12 weeks. Pricing starts at $3.30 in 1K quantity for MLF(TM) packaging and $3.00 for MSOP packaging.
"The MIC5190/91 offers the ideal combination of high PSRR, low dropout voltage and large signal bandwidth to create the perfect low noise power supply for voltage sensitive point-of-load applications," says Steve Knoth, LDO product marketing manager, Micrel. "The high bandwidth makes these chips suitable as an active filter for reducing both the ripple generated from a switched-mode power supply and the amount of capacitance necessary to filter low voltage supply rails."
The MIC5190/91 ICs are designed to operate with an external N-Channel MOSFET power transistor. Both offer high power supply ripple rejection (PSRR) and a high large signal bandwidth of 1MHz, while operating with a dropout voltage as low as 50mV. The MIC5190 features an input voltage range of 0.9V to 5.5V and is suitable for outputs as low as 0.5V. Alternately, the MIC5191 supports an input voltage range of 1.0V to 5.5V and is optimized for outputs down to 1.0V. The devices are designed to allow a choice of either ceramic or tantalum output capacitors.
"The MIC5190/91 series ICs are the latest additions to Micrel's line of uCap LDO regulator controllers," said, Bob Whelton, executive vice president operations, Micrel. "By creating cost-efficient solutions with very low dropout voltages, these chips support Micrel's technology goal of enabling manufactures to market highly efficient products to end customers."
