T-Networks, Incorporated Announces Availability of Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing

Posted on: Monday, 9 August 2004, 06:00 CDT

T-Networks, Incorporated today announced the availability of its entire LIM (Laser Integrated Modulator) product line in Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexed (CWDM) versions. These products will operate at the standard CWDM wavelengths from 1470nm to 1610nm with the same specifications as the current C-band product line. T-Networks entire 10Gb/s product line, with up to 110km transmission performance, NRZ and RZ transmission, and up to +4dBm output power is now offered in CWDM wavelength versions.

CWDM is a standard designed to provide up to 8 channels of transmission with costs much lower than Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (DWDM). These lower costs are realized with a combination of reduced passive optics cost due to the large tolerances in the CWDM system, and reduced active optics costs.

"We've seen significant demand for 10Gb/s transmitters to upgrade existing CWDM networks for both SONET/SDH and Ethernet Metro networks," said David Huff, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, "Our product architecture allows an easy migration to CWDM wavelengths with attractive costs. Our product roadmap will also support CWDM in new form-factors." In keeping with the platform approach of the LIM, this product can be used in existing LIM designs with no modifications.

The Telcordia-qualified T-Networks LIM(TM) platform, based on EAMP(TM) technology, incorporates integrated Indium Phosphide (InP) lasers, modulators and optical amplifiers in a standard 7-pin EML-compatible package with inter-chip isolated coupling. The CWDM products are sampling now.

About T-Networks, Inc.: T-Networks, an ISO9001 registered, privately held corporation, designs, develops, and produces integrated Indium Phosphide solutions for optical transmission systems that exceed the distance-extinction-power (DEP) product for other optical semiconductor technologies. Currently, T-Networks is providing solutions including a wide variety of cooled and uncooled products for 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s transmission to several Tier 1 system OEMs and module vendors. Information on T-Networks and its products is available through its Web site at www.tnetworksinc.com.
