Silicon Optix Acquires Teranex

August 10, 2004

Silicon Optix announced today the acquisition of Teranex, Inc., the leading supplier of Hollywood quality image processing solutions for the broadcast, post-production, and high-end home theater markets. The acquisition occurred in late July.

“We purchased Teranex for their mature and industry-proven programmable video processing hardware and software platforms,” said Paul Russo, chairman and CEO for Silicon Optix. “They are well known as a ‘best of breed’ solution within the broadcast, post-production, cable, satellite and digital cinema industries, where quality cannot be compromised.”

Teranex’s high-end platforms are used by leading movie studios, post-production houses and broadcasters around the world including NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, WB and Turner Networks along with broadcasters in Europe, Japan, Australia, China and South Korea.

Teranex’s technology roots go back to the early 1980s, where Lockheed Martin developed it for tactical image and video processing. Teranex has spent many years perfecting the video processing algorithms in cooperation with the most demanding customers – the “Golden Eyes” of broadcast and post-production.

Silicon Optix will continue to support Teranex’s customers and maintain its operations in Orlando, Florida. The product line will retain the Teranex name.

“Teranex’s technology will help drive the next wave of the digital video revolution enabling Silicon Optix to deliver the programmable DSP approach to real-time processing of high-definition digital video for the capture, transmission, distribution, editing, storage and display markets,” stated Russo.

Silicon Optix acquired Teranex for an undisclosed amount.
