Enterasys also announces support for Network Access Protection technology from Microsoft
Enterasys Networks, Inc. (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks Company(TM), today announced the Microsoft Windows Internet Authentication Service (IAS) RADIUS Server has achieved Secure Networks(TM) certification for interoperability with Enterasys' enterprise switches. Enterasys, as part of its long-standing technology relationship with Microsoft, also announced its support for Network Access Protection technology from Microsoft.
"As the leader in secure networks, we strongly support efforts to embed security in all layers of the enterprise IT infrastructure," said Mark Aslett, president and chief operating officer of Enterasys. "We're pleased to announce the certification of Microsoft IAS RADIUS server with our industry-leading Secure Networks switches, as well as our support for Network Access Protection technology from Microsoft."
Enterasys' Secure Networks Certified program ensures the seamless integration of best-of-breed security technology and services for customers. The program delivers a powerful capability to offer enterprises common solution architectures for Secure Networks by combining technologies and best practices. Enterasys qualifies, tests and certifies interoperability and makes recommendations for best-practices implementations. The company works closely with its partners to solve the complex challenges of increasing the security level of customers' multi-vendor networking environments so customers don't have to perform interoperability testing themselves.
The Microsoft Windows Internet Authentication Server is a Remote Authentication Dial-in User Server (RADIUS) that manages user authentication and authorization. It also manages connections to the network using a variety of connectivity technologies, such as dial-up, virtual private networks (VPNs), and firewalls. Integrating the Microsoft IAS RADIUS server with Enterasys switching technology delivers key security enhancements to enterprise network administrators. Overall, the powerful combination of these two industry-leading technologies provides network managers with greater control over their network and a high level of network security. The features include:
-- Port-based access control--The 802.1X standard provides the ability to control access to the network for end-clients
-- Host access control authentication--which gives the ability to control access to the management of network devices
Benefits from the combination of Enterasys Secure Networks and Microsoft's IAS RADIUS include:
-- Centralized authentication and security policy deployment enterprise-wide
-- Streamlined deployment and configuration
-- Lower total cost of ownership since IAS RADIUS is included in Windows Server 2000 and 2003 and Enterasys high-performance, high-capacity switching equipment reduces the need to purchase additional equipment
"Microsoft's ability to leverage a policy-enabled infrastructure and its adherence to a standards-based approach to security will enable Enterasys to fully leverage and extend the value of Network Access Protection technology so that IT pros have the visibility and control they desire," said John Roese, chief technology officer of Enterasys. "The combination of Enterasys Dynamic Intrusion Response and Network Access Protection technology is designed to provide our joint customers with the strongest capability available to secure their networks. We look forward to working with Microsoft to bring Network Access Protection technology to market and helping shape the direction of the security market."
Steve Anderson, director in the Windows Server Group at Microsoft Corp, said, "Microsoft is pleased that our IAS RADIUS server has achieved the Secure Networks Certified designation through its proven interoperability with Enterasys Secure Networks switches. Both companies recognize the benefits of providing enterprise customers with networking solutions designed to provide an unsurpassed level of security, along with the flexibility to meet a wide range of business needs."
The Enterasys Secure Networks Advantage
Enterasys' industry-leading Secure Networks technology and solutions provide the highest infrastructure security available today. Secure Networks delivers the most granular level of security, providing visibility and control down to the network device, individual user and application level. This enables enterprises to quickly and easily detect, assess, locate and protect against attacks. This unmatched security comes from the integrated policy-based management software architecture that works with the embedded security capabilities Enterasys designs into its entire product line. This unique approach offers significant operational and business benefits, which vendors that add hardware or software to multiple network access points in an attempt to increase security cannot equal. In fact, Secure Networks technology can even make networks with competitors' equipment more secure.

We expressly disclaim any obligation to publicly update such statements to reflect changes in the expectations, assumptions, events or circumstances on which such statements may be based or that may affect the likelihood that actual results will differ materially.
Some risks and uncertainties that may cause actual results to differ materially from these forward-looking statements include, but are not limited to: worldwide and regional economic uncertainty and recent political and social turmoil may continue to negatively affect our business and revenue; we have a history of losses in recent years and may not operate profitably in the future; our quarterly operating results may fluctuate, which could cause us to fail to meet quarterly operating targets and result in a decline in our stock price; we earn a substantial portion of our revenue for each quarter in the last month of each quarter, which reduces our ability to accurately forecast our quarterly results and increases the risk that we will be unable to achieve previously forecasted results; we continue to introduce new products, and if our customers delay product purchases or choose alternative solutions, or if sales of new products are not sufficient to offset declines in sales of older products, our revenue could decline, we may incur excess and obsolete inventory charges, and our financial condition could be harmed; we may be unable to upgrade our indirect distribution channels or otherwise enhance our selling capabilities, which may hinder our ability to grow our customer base and increase our revenue; we have experienced significant changes in senior management and our current management team has been together for only a limited time, which could limit our ability to achieve our objectives and effectively operate our business; there is intense competition in the market for enterprise network equipment, which could prevent us from increasing our revenue and achieving profitability; a portion of the enterprises we sell to rely in whole or in part on public funding and often face significant budgetary pressure, and if these customers must delay, reduce or forego purchasing from us, our revenues could be harmed; we depend upon a limited number of contract manufacturers for substantially all of our manufacturing requirements, and the loss of any of our primary contract manufacturers would impair our ability to meet the demands of our customers; and those additional risks and uncertainties discussed in our most recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including our annual report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 3, 2004.
