Tokyo, Aug. 12 (Jiji Press)--Oki Electric Industry Co. said Thursday it has developed what it claims to be the world's smallest and most power-efficient integrated circuit chip for optical fiber modulator drivers.
The four-millimeter-square IC chip consumes 35 pct less electricity compared with conventional IC chips, Oki said.
The company will start shipments of the chip, designed for use in 10 gigabit-per-second optical modulator drivers, on Sunday. It aims at grasping 50 pct of the global market for 10Gbps optical modulator drivers by fiscal 2005 that ends in March 2006.
Oki targets annual sales of 2 billion yen from the chip, priced at 8,000 yen per unit, in fiscal 2006 and beyond, it said.END
