By Robert Evatt, Tulsa World, Okla.
Jan. 6–The Tulsa district of the Oklahoma Inventors Congress, a branch of the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology, has announced a partial list of guest speakers for 2007.
Each speaker will talk during an OIC monthly meeting, held at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Delta Cafe, 3330 S. Peoria Ave., said Bill Stone, chairman of the OIC’s Tulsa district.
January’s speaker will be Dale Davis, inventor of a heat-activated system for fire suppression and an anti-reverse mechanism for fishing reels. A patent agent and author, he will present an overview of the patenting process.
February’s speaker will be Kathryn Booth, the inventor of Mira-Wood, a process of restoring and protecting wood. She will discuss methods of keeping trade secrets while selling franchises.
The scheduled speaker for March and October is Mike Linscott, an attorney with Linscott & Luna LLP. He will present information on patent infringement litigation in March, and in October he’ll discuss non-disclosure agreements and ways to negotiate with marketing companies for royalties.
April’s speaker will be Molly McKay, a patent attorney who will discuss types of patents.
May’s speakers will be Tim and Janice Barlow of Tim Barlow Paint & Wallpaper. They will talk about successful inventors who use Chinese manufacturing.
July’s speaker will be Brenda Carpenter, an attorney with Linscott & Luna LLP. She will discus trust and estate planning with patents.
September’s scheduled speaker is Tom Bertenshaw, director of the Inventors Assistance Service at Oklahoma State University, who will present information about his program.
The OIC supports inventors by providing information, including how to perform a patent search and file a patent, how to build prototypes and how to market their inventions.
The public is invited to attend the presentations, Stone said. More information can be obtained by contacting him at 638-6347 or WilliamStone@cox.net
