Pacific Crossing Limited (PCL), a provider of trans-Pacific bandwidth and carrier-class managed network services, today announced it has appointed Roderick Boss as the new president and chief executive officer, and Robert Annunziata as the chairman of the board of directors, effective January 1.

“I’m excited to be a part of Pacific Crossing’s continued success as we enter the next chapter of its promising future,” said Boss. “The veteran executive team are leaders in the telecommunications industry evidenced by their commitment to delivering state-of-the-art capacity and service.”

Boss has more than 15 years of trans-Pacific telecommunications experience and was most recently the President and CEO of Japan Telecom America Co, Inc., overseeing Japan Telecom’s U.S. operations. He has a top to bottom understanding of the telecommunications industry, from business marketing and multicultural sales to representing parent company interests on subsidiaries’ board of directors.

Annunziata has more than 35 years of domestic and international telecommunications experience. In the 1990s, he led Teleport Communications Group, which grew into the nation’s largest competitive local exchange company until it was subsequently bought by AT&T in 1998. Annunziata has held numerous executive positions at AT&T, and he also served as CEO of Global Crossing for most of 1999. He is an avid philanthropist and has served as the chairman of the board of directors for the YMCA of Greater New York.

Boss is assuming the leadership position from Dr. Brian Kushner, who has served as president and CEO of Pacific Crossing since 2002. Annunziata is assuming the newly created chairman position. Kushner will remain an active member of the PCL board of directors.

“Rod and Robert are proven executives with the right experience to help Pacific Crossing as it continues to deliver on the market’s increasing demand for bandwidth between the U.S. and Asia,” said Kushner. “We are excited to start the New Year under their leadership.”

About the PC-1 Trans-Pacific System

PCL’s 21,000km fiber optic system consists of four fiber-pairs organized in four segments connecting each of the cable landing stations near major metropolitan areas in the United States and Japan including: Harbour Pointe, Wash.; Grover Beach, Calif.; Ajigaura, Japan; and Shima, Japan. The landing facilities connect seamlessly with Global Crossing North America (GCNA) and are collocated with Asia Netcom’s East Asia Crossing (EAC) to provide backhaul services with diverse routes into major metropolitan areas in both regions.

PCL operates the world’s only independent sub-sea fiber optic cable system that crosses the Pacific Ocean, creating a vital link between the United States and Asia. Because the company’s PC-1 system is non-consortia and carrier-neutral, it can inter-connect with virtually every major carrier and provide worldwide transport to the largest telecommunications customers.
