Mindspeed's Edge Stream Processor and EdgeMaker Firmware Enable ZTE to Deploy High-Capacity, Multi-Service Switch for Enterprise Networks
Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that ZTE Corp., China's largest listed telecommunications equipment provider, is shipping Mindspeed's Edge Stream Processor (ESP) and complementary EdgeMaker firmware in its next-generation M2000 large-capacity, multi-service switch.
The ZTE M2000 multi-service routing switch is an integrated access-switching platform specifically designed for the construction of multi-services networks. Abundant service-processing and powerful networking capabilities in addition to carrier-class reliability enable the system to fully satisfy the needs of point of presence (POP) equipment at various hierarchies in the integrated service network.
"ZTE chose the CX27513 Edge Stream processor and EdgeMaker firmware because it is a mature and field-tested network processing solution that allows implementation of multiple services on a single card," said Mr. LingDongsheng, general manager at ZTE China. "We have designed an Edge Stream module card that is compatible across multiple ZTE products which minimizes research and development costs as well as reducing time-to-market," he added.
"We are pleased that ZTE has chosen to use our Edge Stream processors and off-the-shelf EdgeMaker firmware in its next generation M2000 multi-service switch. Our proven ATM capabilities have enabled us to win multiple designs with ZTE for current and next-generation equipment," said Scott Lane, product line manager for Mindspeed's broadband internetworking systems business unit. "Mindspeed's network processors help ZTE accelerate their product deliveries and reduce their total system costs," he added.
The ZTE M2000 switch is designed to meet the requirements of large-volume services with high switching capacities. The M2000 system offers high-density FR/X.25/DDN/ATM service interfaces making it ideally suited as convergence equipment for FR/X.25/DDN/ATM, broadband MAN, and large enterprise networks. The system combines integrated service access, high-rate route switching, and broadband access authentication into one entity, fully satisfying the ever-increasing requirements of Internet, data line, video, voice service integrated access, convergence, authentication and accounting services.
Mindspeed's ESP is a network-optimized processor that combines the benefits of reduced instruction set computing (RISC) and complex instruction set computing (CISC), providing capabilities uniquely suited to network edge and access applications. The EdgeMaker firmware leverages the ESP's processing power and standard interface flexibility to provide internetworking between packet (IP, Frame), cell (ATM), and circuit-based (TDM) networks, providing a turnkey solution for an array of "any-service/any-port" applications.
