Online marketing firm Oneupweb, today released surprising facts about the 2006 holiday sales season from its aggregate tracking of consumer behavior for clients. Oneupweb tracked data from more than a million consumers interacting with advertising on Google, Yahoo and MSN, over a 14-week period from late September through the 2006 holidays. The analysis shows that:

— The online holiday buying season starts as early as Halloween — The largest online shopping day was Wednesday, December 13th, followed by Monday, December 4th and Monday December 11th — High online sales from the Monday after Thanksgiving (Cyber Monday), are preceded by a dip in both traffic and conversion rates (the percentage of consumers buying, requesting a catalog or other site interaction) — The online sales season continues through the week before Christmas; that week: — Traffic levels were higher than pre-season levels — Sales were substantially higher

This week Oneupweb will release a complete study of holiday sales trends, impact on retailers and best practices capitalizing on these trends, free on Oneupweb.com.

“Because we’re able to track across many industries,” says Oneupweb CEO, Lisa Wehr. “We’re able to recognize whole market advertising trends on Google, Yahoo and MSN, and help our clients through them.” Oneupweb is now sharing the data, helping retailers understand the best practices required for successful online marketing campaigns.

“Other holiday studies track a limited number of consumers or don’t count gift card sales in real time, making our study a better review of what actually happened,” says Wehr.
