Tehran, 9 January: United States has launched extensive media campaign over Saddam’s execution in a bid to overshadow its faltering situation in Iraq, IRNA Managing Director Jalal Fayyazi said on Tuesday [9 January].
Speaking in a panel discussion on ‘Media Campaign after Saddam’s Execution’, Fayyazi said that the US media campaign aims to step up sectarian conflict in Iraq to enable itself to get out of the current quagmire its forces are subject to in Iraq.
He said that the US had made arrangements beforehand to use Saddam’s execution as a show of sectarian conflict in Iraq to divert public opinion from the war crimes committed by US troops in Iraq.
Fayyazi said that Saddam was a servant to the US and the US media have used him the most in their propaganda to advance their hegemonic goals.
“Just like Bin Laden who has turned into scare-crow in the US media, Saddam is also used to mislead public opinion and the current state of affairs in the United States following the take over of the US Congress by the Democrats,” Fayyazi said.
“By resorting to the media campaign about Saddam’s death, the US administration wants to ignore recommendations of the Iraq Study Group who called for direct talks with Iran and Syria to get out of the current stalemate in Iraq,” he said.
Fayyazi criticized al-Jazeera TV networks for its collusion with the US media system to carry out a mission in line with the US interests in the region.
