PassAlong Networks' FreedomMP3 to Include Content Protection Solution By Phoenix Technologies
Posted on: Thursday, 11 January 2007, 06:00 CST
PassAlong Networks(TM), developer of digital media innovations and services, today announced an agreement with Phoenix Technologies(TM) that incorporates Phoenix's content protection solutions into PassAlong's freedomMP3(TM) interoperability platform.
"Interoperability is the key to increasing digital media sales," said Scott Hughes, co-founder and SVP Strategy for PassAlong Networks and former EMI executive. "The challenge is to allow for the reasonable protection of content while fully enabling interoperability. Phoenix's highly effective protection solution assists freedomMP3 in achieving its interoperability objectives."
FreedomMP3 is an interoperability platform that allows digital music to play on PCs, phones and portable digital music players while respecting both consumers' and creators' rights. The protection solution utilized by freedomMP3 was achieved in part through the use of an encryption algorithm from Phoenix Technologies.
FreedomMP3's patent-pending technology establishes rules-based systems that allow consumers to conveniently transfer music to any of their PCs and play the songs on portable digital music players, including iPods and MP3-enabled cell phones. FreedomMP3 accomplishes this without the use of restrictive digital rights management (DRM) technologies.
"FreedomMP3's approach to interoperability is a step in the right direction toward enabling a digital consumer ecosystem," said Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies. "Utilizing Phoenix's technology makes a lot of sense for PassAlong and freedomMP3."
