TechBiz Connection to Host Seminar on the Future of Internet Security

Posted on: Friday, 12 January 2007, 12:00 CST

TechBiz Connection (TBC) will sponsor a seminar on the future of Internet security featuring a discussion of how to protect one's identity and personal assets from being victimized by cyber crooks on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:00 pm at The Orange County Register in Santa Ana.

According to Jack Bicer, TBC president, the seminar will be an awareness training session to help strengthen everyone's first line of defense which is every individual. Whether one is a computer novice or an old pro, the knowledge and methods taught in this seminar will help attendees substantially lower their risks to both online and offline threats.

The discussion will focus on the types of frauds aimed at the individual. These include identity theft, employment scams, and financial frauds, risks inherent in social networking sites (like mySpace), techniques to address child and teen safety online, as well as, some evolving threats which society may not yet be aware of.

TBC's presenter is Mark Liphardt, CEO of Computer Forensics Management. Liphardt has over 35 years of broad-ranging experience in the computer and communications industries, including the launching and directing of technology-based products and services for Fortune 500 companies. He has been responsible for the management of security and forensic teams and the design of forensics labs and methodologies and has further been recognized for his pioneering research in the development of Artificial Intelligence technology. For the past seven years he has led computer forensics investigations for cases involving hundreds of millions of dollars and ranging from domestic to international in scope.

Other topics will include how organized crime gangs have become increasingly more sophisticated in using the Internet to steal money and identities; how to recognize the most popular threats/scams currently in vogue; and how to understand their underlying frameworks in order to recognize and know how to avoid new variations as they appear.

In addition, attendees will learn how to implement Best Practices to protect oneself without restricting the ability to use and do business on the Internet. Finally, the discussion will cover what steps to take in response if one is a victim of Internet fraud.

The forum discussion and subsequent question-and-answer session is sponsored by Business Wire, Daly-Swartz Public Relations, iSeminars Int'l, Savvis, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and Brilliant Blue with The Orange County Register as host sponsor.

Admission to the TechBiz Connection event is $30 prepaid and $40 at the door. For further information and RSVP, visit http://www.techbizconnection.org or e-mail Jack Bicer at president@techbizconnection.org.
