Anritsu Chooses Ample Communications’ Harrier MAC for Video Over Ethernet Switch
Ample Communications, a leading provider of communications silicon for wireline network systems, today announced that Anritsu Corporation, a global leader in Information network test & measurement for mobile and Internet communications, has chosen Ample’s Harrier 10/100/1G Ethernet MAC for its IP video distribution switch. Ample’s Harrier is a lower power, higher-density MAC enabling Anritsu to develop a more efficient switch for delivering superior quality video over Ethernet.
“We selected Ample because Harrier was the only product that could meet all our needs for providing a high density Ethernet solution,” said Kurosu, engineer of Anritsu. “Harrier enables us to reduce system cost, and simultaneously offer our customers a superior switch to deliver more efficient IP video.”
For triple play services, IP video streaming requires large amounts of power and bandwidth, which can put significant strain on system resources. Ample’s highly integrated Harrier MAC provides programmable, intelligent oversubscription to optimize existing network infrastructure and reduce the number of components, which enabled Anritsu to develop a higher density video distribution switch that occupies less space and runs at a lower power. This is critical for meeting the demands of delivering video over Ethernet, especially with higher quality video such as HDTV.
“Ample’s Ethernet MACs are filling a gap in the triple play market for a chip that enables higher density and more efficient video applications,” said Mat Steinberg, vice president of business development for Ample. “We are very pleased to work with Anritsu to help deliver efficient aggregation capabilities.”
