Wasabi Announces Storage Builder(R) Support for Intel(R) Storage System SSR212CC
Posted on: Tuesday, 16 January 2007, 12:00 CST
Wasabi Systems today announced full support for the Intel® Storage System SSR212CC, a storage building block that provides up to 6TB of data storage in a 2U rack-mount form factor. When coupled with Wasabi Storage Builder®, the Intel storage system becomes a scalable, high-performance networked storage appliance that can be used for IP-SAN and NAS applications or as an IP-based DAS expansion module. The solution is now available for integration by qualified VARs and SIs, delivered on a Wasabi Flashware®-enabled DOM.
"Storage Builder represents a best of breed combination of an Open Source software foundation and proprietary storage software. When combined with the Intel Storage System SSR212CC , the result is the most powerful and scalable IP-SAN and NAS solution in its class," said Wasabi President and CEO, Frank G. Logan, III. "With a total starting price of under $4,500 MSRP, the complete solution is clearly a value leader over 'entry level' systems offered by competitors that lack the scalability offered by Wasabi."
"Intel is committed to developing storage solutions for the reseller channel that are cost effective and easier to manage," said Scott Peiffer, director of Intel Storage Systems Marketing. "The combination of Wasabi software and Intel's hardware platforms found in this Appliance Solution will help the Intel channel to meet the demand of a broad range of SMB users."
"Wasabi and Intel working together is another step forward in the shift in how we do storage," said Tony Asaro, senior analyst Enterprise Strategy Group. "The combination of intelligent software on open commodity hardware is driving down the cost of implementing network storage enabling its availability for customers and markets that previously could not afford these solutions."
Targeted applications of Wasabi Storage Builder for SSR212CC include streaming video and audio applications such as network video recording for surveillance applications;
Microsoft business solutions such as Exchange and SharePoint, and database systems including Oracle 10G, MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server and disk-based backup and archive applications.
"We are currently working with Intel and Wasabi to deliver IP-SAN solutions to our customers," said Mike Kratoska, Director of Product Management at Dedicated Computing. "Wasabi's validation on the solution will streamline our time to market for next generation products."
Completely integrated with full configuration and system management support for the Intel SRCS28Xs SATA RAID controllers through the innovative web-based GUI, Wasabi Storage Builder does not require the use of external RAID BIOS for management of RAID sets and virtual disks like other competing systems. No other currently available software product includes this capability. Additionally, the solution provides seamless integration with Storage Builder for NAS, which includes an integrated iSCSI initiator. By combining a diskless Wasabi NAS head unit with up to 6 Storage Builder / SSR212CC arrays, a single system can be scaled to 54TB of raw storage and support auto-failover, scheduled snapshot and remote replication.
Other powerful features of Wasabi Storage Builder include:
High scalability with support for petabyte size file systems
Integrated WasabiRAID™ for reduced BOM costs and enhanced RAID options when used in conjunction with RAID controllers
Enterprise reliability with support for RAID 0,1,10,5,50 and 51
Volume management allowing volume group creation over multiple physical RAID controllers or SATA HBAs
Individual volumes of any size up to physical array limits without the 2TB volume limit common in competing solutions
Advanced error recovery with support for iSCSI ERL 0,1 & 2
E-mail notification support
Advanced enclosure management functionality
In a recent review by DataNews, Wasabi Storage Builder was shown to be the best value while matching or beating other iSCSI solutions offered at much higher prices.
The Wasabi Storage Builder family of products offer complete, turnkey software solutions that enable OEMs to deliver high-performance IP-SAN and NAS storage appliances. Modular and scalable, Storage Builder is the most advanced software platform available for creating IP-enabled networked storage devices. Storage Builder is compatible with all IETF compliant initiators and has been thoroughly validated with initiators available with Microsoft Windows, various Linux and Unix distributions, MAC OS X, Netware, Solaris, and Wasabi Certified™ BSD.
