uXcomm Announces Service-Oriented Management Architecture (SOMA) (TM)
Posted on: Wednesday, 17 January 2007, 09:00 CST
uXcomm, the leading provider of systems management platforms for device and software system manufacturers, today announced the Service-Oriented Management Architecture (SOMA). SOMA makes it possible for device and software manufacturers to quickly and easily embed advanced systems management features into any server, network element, appliance or storage device. Leveraging this open standard service-based approach, Fortune 500 corporations, service providers and network operators have a powerful development platform to construct modern management solutions that can be easily integrated into devices operating within any proprietary framework, heterogeneous environment or open-source application.
"Many forward-looking companies are embracing service-oriented approaches to dynamically provision and update application services on hardware. Cisco's recent announcement of their Service-Oriented Network Architecture (SONA) is just one example of the high level of industry interest in SOA," said Dennis Drogseth, a vice president at Enterprise Management Associates. "However, to effectively manage these products and ensure they integrate more effectively into customer environments, device and software manufacturers should look to integrate with a broader fabric of SOA-related management capabilities, including strong analytic capabilities such as those offered by SOMA-based management technologies."
Just as Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) are being adopted to unite disparate business applications, organizations are rapidly moving to SOMA to bring to market systems management solutions that support any management interface, physical or virtual device, or system. A central ingredient to SOMA is the Management Services Bus (MSB), which provides a common communication infrastructure in which all applications are converted and deployed as run-time services. It is from these XML-based services that developers can construct complete management applications and agents, and implement management actions between any two transactions. As a result, organizations that adopt a SOMA-based approach can quickly and easily build new management applications or simply integrate existing commercial or open source applications and deploy them on the Management Services Bus.
Based on SOMA, uXcomm's XManage platform connects any device or system to any management application, from legacy frameworks to open source management solutions, uniting all data center technologies within one common management infrastructure. XManage is a proven, modular systems management platform, delivered as a software agent or specialized appliance that enables any system builder to quickly and easily deploy "out-of-box" management solutions while still having full customization capabilities. Together, SOMA and XManage help manufacturers, system integrators and end users integrate advanced systems management features into any server, network element, appliance or storage device quickly and at a lower cost than any available management solution in the market today.
"As new technologies enter the data center, previous systems management approaches have not been able to keep up with technology innovation or network demand," said Bob Van Steenberg, CEO, uXcomm. "SOMA finally solves the 'silos of management' problem that has existed in the data center for generations by helping companies bring advanced solutions that support any physical or virtual device and management interface faster and at a lower cost than any available solution in the market today."
uXcomm also today announced the uXcomm XManage Server Edition and XManage Information Appliance Edition based on its SOMA approach (see accompanying release).
