Dell Demonstrates Performance of Scalable Systems for Customers Deploying Microsoft Exchange

Dell(TM) PowerEdge(TM) servers have achieved the first Microsoft(R) Exchange Server 2003 benchmark for a clustered configuration, underscoring Dell's ongoing commitment to offer the best combination of performance, value and availability for the standardized data center.
Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) recorded the first Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 cluster result on four PowerEdge 1750 servers, each with two Intel(R) Xeon(TM) 3.2GHz processors, connected in a cluster configuration and backed by a Dell/EMC CX600 storage area network (SAN). The Dell configuration is priced at less than $7,800 per processor, demonstrating the low initial cost associated with deploying scalable, standards-based servers. The benchmark results were published by Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/performance as 15,000 MAPI Messaging Benchmark 3s (MMB3s). MMB3 measures a server's messaging performance using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and approximates how many typical corporate e-mail users the server can support.
"Scalable configurations enable customers to maximize their resources without compromising performance by providing the flexibility to incrementally add the latest technologies as business requirements change," said Reza Rooholamini, director of enterprise solutions in Dell's Product Group.
"The first high-availability benchmark study of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on Dell PowerEdge servers is a critical step toward reinforcing the value of the scalable enterprise," said Kim Akers, senior director of the Exchange Server Group at Microsoft. "Dell's leadership in scalable architectures and close partnership with Microsoft are assets to our mutual customers.
Dell's PowerEdge 1850 server also currently holds a leading Exchange Server 2003 performance benchmark for a single dual-processor server. The PowerEdge 1850's result of 6,500 MMB3s, published by Microsoft in July, underscores the performance, flexibility and price benefits customers can achieve with Dell standards-based platforms.
