All Grown Up
THE transformation from boys to men – that may be the best way to describe multi-million record-selling and ground-breaking R&B group, Boyz II Men’s latest album, The Remedy.
After laying low for almost three years, the group – Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman (another founding member, Michael McCary withdrew from the group in 2003) – is set to pick up where they left off with the new album.
Best of all, they didn’t do it by emulating the formula that made them outsell Elvis Presley – selling more than 60 million copies of their albums worldwide – or the same recipe that won them a host of awards, including Grammys, American Music Awards and World Music Awards.
Instead, they did so by moving forward.
“I think The Remedy paints a more mature side of us because we are not the teenagers that everybody used to know years ago,” Stockman told The Malay Mail in a phone conversation recently.
“A lot of the songs on this album are adult-oriented and that’s the point. It touches on issues that we had never touched on before. People will get a different side of Boyz II Men, one which has developed through the years,” he added.
When it was released last October in Japan, (it will be released internationally on Feb 14) The Remedy outsold new albums from some of the biggest stars, including Beyonce’s B’Day, Janet Jackson’s 20 Y.O. and Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds.
Hardly surprising as judging from tracks like The Last Time, Morning Love, Just Like Me, Here I Come and Muzak, it’s safe to say that the album is arguably their best since 1997′s Evolution.
The Remedy has yet to be released here but fans are in for a treat as they’ll get to hear it `live’ as the group is scheduled to heat up Genting’s Arena of Stars for two nights on Friday and Saturday at 8pm.
Tickets for the Friday show are priced at RM60, RM95, RM140, RM190 and RM260 while tickets for Saturday are RM70, RM110, RM160, RM220 and RM300.
