“Meats and proteins are vital to feeding the hungry in our communities, and we are often stretched to provide those items,” said Vicki B. Escarra, president and CEO of America’s Second Harvest. “Steak n Shake has been a wonderful partner and so helpful in providing high quality donations.”

Steak n Shake donated one STEAKBURGER patty to a local America’s Second Harvest food bank for every $5 in TAKHOMACARD gift cards purchased from Nov. 1 through Dec. 25, 2006. The donations were made in the geographic area in which the gift cards were purchased. Delivery of the STEAKBURGER patties will be individually coordinated with the local food banks.

“America’s Second Harvest is this country’s largest network of food banks, feeding more than 25 million low-income Americans every year. The organization touches a lot of lives,” said Peter Dunn, president and CEO of Steak n Shake. “Our partnership allows Steak n Shake to give back in our own way — with STEAKBURGERS — and make a difference in each of our communities.”

During 2006, Steak n Shake donated more than 1 million patties to America’s Second Harvest food banks through the annual TAKHOMACARD program and in response to the devastation created by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the Gulf coast states.

Steak n Shake operates more than 460 company-owned and franchised restaurants in 19 states.
