Taco Cart Closures
By Kathy Stephenson, The Salt Lake Tribune
Jan. 24–Two more taco carts were shut down this week by The Salt Lake Valley Health Department, part of a recent crack down on weather-related violations at outdoor food carts. Last week, the department shut down 10 carts for code violations.
El Taco Loro, 1585 W. 3500 South, was closed Tuesday, according to a notice posted on the department’s Web site, for failing to have water available at the hand sink, holding potentially hazardous foods at too low of a temperature (124 degrees), storing cooked meat with raw meat and using an unapproved canopy.
Taqueria El Primo, 7081 W. 3500 South, was closed Monday for not having an operational hand sink, having frozen waste water tanks, employees having bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods and storing raw meat in a cooler with cooked meats.
Violation notices are posted on the Internet site, http://www.slvhealth .org/cfml/foodenf.cfm.
