Jan. 24–A Forestbrook man was arrested Wednesday after an investigation by the Horry County police and the S.C. Secretary of State office turned up thousands of dollars of counterfeit sports merchandise, according to a statement from the Horry County Police Department.
Daniel Renne, 30, was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center outside Conway after being charged with distribution of counterfeit trademarks and posting bond, Horry County police Sgt. Bob Carr said.
Carr said although he can’t say specifically what types of merchandise was sold, Renne is charged with using the online auction site eBay to sell the counterfeit merchandise bearing logos held by Major League Baseball teams, the National Football League and the National Basketball Association.
When officials conducted a search warrant, Carr reports, they found more than $3,000 worth of counterfeit goods, as well as several thousand dollars worth of computer and printing equipment.
Carr said the investigation is ongoing.
