CUBA and Venezuela have strengthened their ties with economic agreements, including a plan for an underwater fibre optics cable between the two countries, designed to bypass the US trade embargo. Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez and Cuba’s vice president Carlos Lage signed deals to develop nickel, electricity and rice projects.
