Dell Introduces Tailored Support Services for Small and Medium Businesses

Posted on: Monday, 30 August 2004, 06:00 CDT

Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) has broadened its service offerings to small- and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in the United States with the introduction today of PC Workspace Services, a desktop support service program starting at less than $20 a month per covered system.

PC Workspace Services is a fully functional Dell-hosted help desk that can take first-level support calls, provide remote support for Dell and multi-vendor client systems, and handle duties such as installation, moves, changes, desk-side support, repairs, responsible systems removal and software support. PC Workspace Services includes the necessary web-based tools to help organizations gain relevant service information, measure performance, and assist with program management(a).

"Organizations managing 1,000 to 5,000 desktop systems with limited IT resources can often be overwhelmed and understaffed to manage day-to-day desktop support issues," said Joyce Mullen, vice president of Dell SMB Services. "By applying the same Dell business model we use for products and services, PC Workspace Services will allow IT managers to get the most from their infrastructure and end-user support services by providing the tools, resources and experience to do more with less."

In a recent report titled "SMBs Link PC Purchases with Service Needs," research firm Forrester recommended that vendors must develop a one-to-many service offering to SMBs that is standardized, easily replicated, centralized and managed remotely (July 2004). The firm stated that "PC buying patterns in the SMB market are changing. Value-added resellers (VARs) are being cut out of the desktop procurement process as firms purchase new systems directly from the manufacturer. Direct suppliers like Dell are gaining greater account control and the ability to bundle provisioning and ongoing desktop management services to SMB customers."

The introduction of PC Workspace Services rounds out Dell's full portfolio of desktop management services for SMB customers including factory integration, deployment and installation, support and maintenance, recovery and disposition, asset management, and training and certification for organizations with limited IT resources.

PC Workspace Services Financing and Availability

For PC Workspace Services, customers can pay a fixed fee for support during each billing period and can add optional services as needed to the base invoice. To help small and medium businesses avoid technology obsolescence while conserving capital, Dell Financial Services L.P. (DFS) provides access to flexible finance options and aggressive pricing. Customers can apply for a QuickLease or QuickLoan using a paperless documentation process and receive a quick, online decision about their credit application. Orders of more than $500 placed through September 30, 2004, may be eligible for a special DFS promotional offer of a zero-percent, 30-month fair market value lease. Complete offer details can be found at www.dell.com/smb/leasing.

PC Workspace Services is now available for U.S.-based SMB customers. For more information, please visit http://www.dell.com/pcworkspaceservices.
