QUALCOMM Co-Founder Dr. Irwin Jacobs Headlines San Diego Telecom Council Event

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Diego Telecom Council (SDTC), the premier organization developing and cultivating awareness of the region's telecommunications industry, will host wireless technology pioneer and co-founder, chairman and CEO of QUALCOMM, Incorporated, Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, for his first appearance in front of the council's membership in six years at the next Headliners event September 14, from 5pm to 7:30pm at the La Jolla Marriott.
Adding to the unique nature of the event, Dr. Jacobs will be interviewed by leading industry analyst, Andrew Seybold on the mobile communications revolution and the industry's transition from second-generation to third- generation technologies. Dr. Jacobs will discuss the latest developments in wireless from the incorporation of location services and multi-megapixel cameras to the addition of applications such as digital video in the latest handsets.
Dr. Jacobs has been recognized around the world for his expertise and leadership in creating and developing digital wireless technology solutions and he himself holds several wireless technology patents. It is Dr. Jacobs' knowledge and innovative ideas that have helped QUALCOMM become a leader in developing and delivering innovative wireless products and solutions, based on, the company's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology.
With Dr. Jacobs' leadership in commercializing CDMA technology, the company has successfully become the world's most advanced voice and data wireless communications technology provider and CDMA is now the technology of choice for over 212 million consumers worldwide.
Dr. Jacobs' prior experience includes co-founder, president, chairman and CEO of LINKABIT Corporation, a wireless communications company. Prior to LINKABIT, he served as a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of California, San Diego as well as an assistant/associate professor of electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Jacobs co-authored a digital communications textbook, Principles of Engineering, first published in 1965 and is still in use today.
Dr. Jacobs' interview will be directed by Andrew Seybold, an expert in the mobile computing and wireless data industry. Seybold's knowledge and creative vision have made him one of the most sought after consultants in the wireless profession. With several years of communications and computing experience, Seybold is a well-resourced authority in the wireless industry and will pose many challenging and insightful questions for Dr. Jacobs, as well as providing his knowledge and expertise in the wireless communications market.
