Time Warner Telecom Wins $1.2 Million Contract to Deliver Data Services to the County of Orange

Posted on: Monday, 5 February 2007, 12:00 CST

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom Inc., , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced their participation in a multi-year, multi-vendor, $2.3 million contract, of which Time Warner Telecom was awarded $1.2 million to deliver metro Ethernet data services, to the County of Orange in California.

"After an extensive RFP process, we found that Time Warner Telecom was one of the best choices to deliver the metro Ethernet services that we needed to achieve our objectives," said Satish Ajmani, chief information officer for the County of Orange. "When complete, we'll have a single voice and data network that's easier to maintain and manage and delivers substantially more capacity to our customers, all at a lower cost."

The County of Orange, the nation's fifth-largest, currently operates separate voice and data networks, each with its own infrastructure, maintenance and management staffs. The County's goal is to converge its networks by establishing multiple metro Ethernet point-to-point circuits with 1 Gbps capacity. This advancement will extend the County's wide area network (WAN) and allow access for many more facilities throughout its nearly 800 square-mile area. This upgrade also provides enough bandwidth to implement voice over IP solutions (VoIP) in the coming year.

"Time Warner Telecom's metro Ethernet solutions are a great fit for the County, because our extensive fiber-based network delivers capabilities and reach to agencies that serve its 3 million-plus population," said Ron Mills, Director of City Sales for Time Warner Telecom in Irvine. "Our IP-based solutions allow cash and headcount strapped municipalities to implement converged voice and data networks that are easier to manage, provision, maintain and fund. Ultimately, the County's residents are the big winners because the agencies that serve them will now have greatly increased network bandwidth, redundancy and flexibility."
