ALONG Mobile Technologies Creates the First Wi-Fi City in China

Posted on: Tuesday, 6 February 2007, 06:00 CST

XI'AN, China, Feb. 6 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ALONG Mobile Technologies Inc. , a leading provider of wireless interactive entertainment products and services to customers in China, today announced that it will commit itself to transforming Xi'an (a city with a population of more than 7 million, and which is also a Hi-Tech Development Zone in the western part of China) into a ''Wi-Fi City.'' ALONG will accomplish this by relying on its existing downloading terminal backbone network in the city and by increasing the number of Wi-Fi launchers by more than 1000 in key spots such as in universities, the railway station, and the airport in 2007. This will enable Wi-Fi users to enjoy the same broadband experience they get in the home or office, with high-speed Internet access.

Users will be enabled to use bandwidth-hungry applications such as video streaming, video conferencing, online gaming and large-file transfers with virtually any of the growing number of Wi-Fi-enabled gadgets, such as laptops, PDAs, smart-phones or handheld gaming devices. The forecast for the growth of Wi-Fi devices is from 40 million shipped worldwide last year to 249 million in 2011, according to US-based ABI Research.

In addition, Xi'an universities and ALONG will encourage digital learning by expanding Wi-Fi coverage to students of 50 tertiary institutions. This means more than 800,000 students will benefit from the convenience of accessing the Internet at Wi-Fi launchers.

"With Wi-Fi service, we are enhancing the customer experience at our properties by offering quality, choice and innovation. As Wi-Fi popularity spreads, we will expand coverage to include even more shopping areas," said the COO of ALONG Mobile, Mr. Gao Yeru.

Mr. Li Jianwei, the CEO of ALONG, said, ''We could not help noticing the growing number of Wi-Fi-enabled gadgets, such as laptops, PDAs, smart-phones and handheld gaming devices in the market these days. This will be a huge market in China over the coming years, and by establishing this launcher- network step by step, ALONG will help itself to step into a brand new stage.''

''By adding this function to our downloading machine network and setting these new Wi-Fi launchers, we will enlarge our service range. This new service is mainly provided to ALONG's member-card holders and is also marketed at new users, encouraging them to sign up, thus increasing revenue and customer base as well,'' stated Mr. Wang Zhen, the CFO of ALONG. He went on to say, ''We plan to start this service first in Xi'an, to lock up and enlarge our customer group. We expect to spend $500,000 on both R&D and hardware this year, and we anticipate this new service will increase net income in 2007 by about 9% from last year's.''
